Dance and performance workshop is organised within the Creative Bodies in Movement project, a project aimed at cultural and social inclusion of migrants in Slovenia and better employment opportunities in the field of performing arts. Moreover, through our project activities, we encourage intercultural and intergenerational dialogue.

The project as a whole ends on 28 February 2023, when the participants will publicly present their newly acquired knowledge and close the project.

Who is it for?
Migrants - young adults and adults (15+) - who moved to Slovenia and are interested in developing their creative skills, would enjoy dancing and expressing themselves through dance, and are eager to meet new people and spread their network of personal and professional contacts.

What can you get from this?
If you are an artist, building up your skills in the workshop will increase the opportunities of employment in Slovenia, in the field of performing arts. If you are not experienced in dance, you’ll learn how and manage to express yourself through dance, enjoy and socialise with different people. In both cases, you’ll meet and work with renowned, amazing artists, spread horizons, make new friends and have great fun while learning and strengthening intercultural dialogue on the way.

As the participant, you will:
-
develop the skills to design and develop creative ideas - Creativity is the ability to create new ideas, concepts or solutions to a problem; it is a method to establish new connections between existing ideas or concepts
- gain experience in teamwork and collaborative skills, as a part of multicultural community/group
- improve your self-awareness skills and increase your proactivity and self-confidence for public presentation
- spread your network of personal and professional contacts
- have opportunity to be part of the public event with your own project

Overview of the activities:
-
learning the creative methods used in performing arts contexts or develop your existing skills
- focus on the deconstruction and re-construction of the technical structure, explore social and emotional range of dance
- try to go beyond rigid models and expose the more complex ways in which the forces of attraction and repulsion are used in the context of stage presence - and, above all, try to answer the question: what can choreography be in this sense, and what can determine it?
- preparation for and production of the public presentation, which will close the project on 28 February 2023.

About the workshop

As Kejžar says, in order to truly experiment with dance, it is necessary to go beyond rigid binary models that reflect existing structures of power and domination; it is necessary to invent ways of moving that reflect different ways of thinking and acting of a modern person. The workshop will thus be permeated by the mentor's otherwise creative agenda, which focuses on the deconstruction and re-construction of the technical structure, social and emotional range of dance: on the one hand, it evokes existing forms of social interaction and socialising, and on the other, it conceives of some kind of utopian socio-organisational projects of the future.

About the mentor

Matej Kejžar graduated from Amsterdam’s SNDO and Brussels’ X-Group P.A.R.T.S. and was an exchange student at the Trisha Brown in New York. After finishing his studies, he created a number of critically acclaimed choreographies in Slovenia. In 2007, Kejžar moved to Brussels where he worked with Rosas (The Song, Cesena) and collaborated with Boris Charmatz on the 20 Dancers for the XX Century. In 2010 he started developing his unique choreographic language, creating various pieces around the globe with the performance Rave commissioned by the Avignon Theatre Festival. In recent years Kejžar has been working on a series of researches into the relationship between body and digitalization. He has been the initiator and artistic director of Spider festival - festival of radical bodies. Kejžar teaches with SNDO, SEAD, P.A.R.T.S., TSEH, ImpulsTanz, Ultima vez and Rosas.
